What's Valentine's Day, Again?

We're back! If you hadn't already noticed, we're kind of horrible at the whole actually posting thing, but now that we're second semester seniors we will have more time to do so!
Yesterday afternoon, we managed to forget that it was Valentine's Day (no doubt because of its extreme irrelevancy in our single lives). So, we apologize if anyone is expecting a Valentine's-themed post/shoot… Emma is wearing a pink shirt, so there you go, I guess. Enjoy!

Anyways, things are (or are supposed to be) winding down for us a little, finally. With all college apps finally submitted and a few reassuring safety school acceptances sitting in our inboxes, all we have to do is sit back and wait for the decisions in early April. Which is much easier said than done, of course. If any other high school seniors are reading, just remember that you're not alone in the excruciating anxiety that is called the admissions process. School-wise, midterm exams are behind us and it's now the oh-so-glorious second semester! To be honest, we feel like the workload hasn't really decreased at all yet, but Senioritis is kicking in more and more each day, so maybe we should just expect a decrease in caring instead.
So, to start off the 3-day weekend right, we bundled up and headed to the park, savoring the fashion of winter-- some of our current favorites being oversized coats, beanies, and Docs!

Menswear has had a place in women's fashion since at least the '20s, and women seem to constantly be finding new ways to make masculine pieces their own. From Coco Chanel, to YSL, Annie Hall, and even the shoulder pads of the '80s, mixing stereotypically masculine and feminine pieces makes women feel powerful and free to express themselves. You can really do this any way you want; ease into it with a simple blazer or a pair of boyfriend jeans, or be fearless and go all-out with an Alexa Chung-esque, well-fitted suit. Right now, we're into the simple duster/oversized blazer look to stay cozy in the ridiculously unpredictable Northern Virginia temperatures. We have to keep warm on the way to and from school (especially because of our hugely disappointing lack of snow days, no matter how crappy it is outside), so big coats are key!

Doc Martens also have a bit of a masculine feel. We both love throwing the clunky, industrial look of  Docs into any outfit. They're easy, sturdy, and comfy, and can add a bit of fun edge to an outfit that may originally feel a little more dainty than we want. Docs are also fun because of their variety of shapes and colors; we both have black, but Emma wears the famous classic boot and Alicia wears the low-cut oxford/brogue-ish shoe. (Paired with some fun pink fox-patterned socks so as to avoid looking goth with so much black…)

Even if you're geared up with boots, thick socks, and heavy coats, knits are essential to keep your body at maximum tastiness! Thick and warm doesn't have to mean lumpy and unfashionable-- we both wear warm crop tops underneath our coats. Emma dons a pink, ribbed crop top and Alicia sports a marled sweater.

Of course, beanies and other cold weather accessories like gloves or mittens are also necessary for standing around outside like morons and taking pictures of each other. Zara has the best hats that go with pretty much everything!

Lastly, we just thought we'd remind everyone to bold and daring in their clothing choices. Basically, just wear what you want to wear. At our school, girls can get a lot of flack for their wardrobe, especially if their fashion is even the slightest bit unique or progressive. (Emma's blazer has been referred to as a bathrobe, Alicia's white platform sneakers have gotten her called Miley Cyrus; the list goes on and on.) But almost the entirety of these remarks comes from ignorant teenage boys whose outfits seldom vary and hold all their worth in a pair of Nike Elite socks. So, even though you can't really help but let it get to you, just try to laugh at what other people say, and don't be afraid to wear what makes you feel good. Your clothes are for you, and not for anyone else.

Go get some new beanies, get outside, enjoy the weather, drink some hot chocolate, savor your snow days! (Still just a little bitter with our school system)

(We literally cannot do photos, I'm sorry.)

That's all from us for now! How have you all been? Any new trends you've been seeing lately?

Emma: Reformation coat, Topshop crop top, Topshop jeans, Doc Marten boots, Zara beanie (If you were wondering, it says 'winter is coming keep your ears warm')
Alicia: Topshop duster coat, Topshop sweater, Topshop jeans (we like Topshop), Urban Outfitters fox socks, Doc Marten 1461s, Zara beanie, Monki mittens
